Noticing Needs

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Eph 2:10 NIV

Not only does God love us each so much, He wants us to be with Him forever in Heaven someday, but He also wants us to get a taste of Paradise here too. This is why He continues to create us into the Image of His Immaculate Son. He wants us to be able to experience that peace that surpasses understanding. To stay strong by holding on to the Joy of the Lord. And to make choices that lead to righteousness, so we can be virtuous and noble, like Him. And as He grows us up, He will give us the opportunity to participate and sense all this wonderful goodness by doing good works.

As we said last week, good works is simply doing things that reflect God’s character. So when we notice that someone needs help, we will do what we can for them, not expecting anything in return. A key word there is “notice.” If we go about life just thinking about MMI, then we just might miss these occasions to be a blessing to those around us. I have to admit, I used to walk around with blinders on, only focused on my own needs and desires. But as God continues to mature me, I actually look around to see if anyone could use a helping hand. And every time I do, I am blessed too.
