We think we know what love is, but do we? Here’s this great verse again:
“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” 1Co 13: 13 NIV
As I said on Monday, this whole chapter is about godly love, not the way you and I think about love, but true love. Listen to these amazing qualities of God’s Love: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails…” (1Co 13:4-8) Which one of us can love that way? Consistently? With every thought, word and deed? Well, as we place our Faith in God, as He becomes our reason to Hope, we will continue to grow into this type of Love…that’s the plan anyway.
Being able to self-less-ly love God and others is what makes life so amazing. It is what we were created for by a God who is Love. While this side of Heaven you and I will not be perfect at it, the more we grow, the more we will be able to display this Love. It is the only power that can lead to the truly fulfilling Abundant Life that overflows with all that is good. Love is the climax of life. The entire point and purpose to this world. And the very reason why we exist. God IS Love…and because of this, He is the only true…well, let’s wrap it up tomorrow.
