In memory of my Dad who just passed away last week, I’m going to do things a bit different this week. The verse I want us to focus on will be from Mt 5:4…but I am going to bring in other verses all week to more fully explain this tough topic of death, mourning and comfort. Here’s the “verse to remember”:
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Mt 5:4 NIV
This is the second of nine blessings from what we call The Beatitudes that begins the amazing Sermon on the Mount from our Lord Jesus. He strings together what seem like opposites to show us that, what things may look like, do not always point to their eventual outcome. One might think that it would be a blessing to never have to mourn at all. Yet the truth is, because we live in this fallen, corrupt, broken world, mourning will come, but it does not have to have the last say.
