I love, love, love this verse!
“The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Dt 31:8 NIV
So God goes before us to clear the path, if we follow Him, that is. If we are still living life doing “our own thing,” then we can miss God’s Timing and, a tough situation, can get tougher really quick! A huge part of growing in Christ is learning how to BE led by Him. Following naturally means Jesus must go before us to show us what to think, say and do. But He also walks by our side too!
“I go before you AND I will be with you” is the promise. And since God is Omnipresent, which means He is in all Space and Time, and all at the same time, He can be both before and with us, all at the same time! I know, it makes our brains hurts a little because you and I can only be in one place at a time, physically anyway. We can certainly “go” somewhere completely different in our minds while our body remain in one place, but that’s not what I’m talking about here. God, His entire Person, is everywhere, all at once. This is how He knows the end before the beginning even starts. He sees our whole life, all in one picture.
There are some things about God we will simply not completely get this side of Heaven, but this is how God explained His Omnipresence to me once. Imagine we are at a parade and we are standing down on the street level, watching it pass before our eyes. We will see the first float, then the marching band, then the waving official and so on, all one at a time, as they go by. But what if someone else was up on a really high building? They could see the entire parade in one shot from their vantage point. They can see the last car with the waving official even before the first float comes our way. Are we getting it? God is great! And understanding Him fully is a lifetime endeavor…I mean lifetime, as in for all eternity! That’s my joke with God. I say, “Lord thank You for eternity because it is going to take me that long to fully and completely know You!” This is the God who is with us, my Friends. Let’s be in awe of Him today…and every day!
