From “Me” to “We”

I hope we are all understanding more deeply that there is something so much better to this Christian Life than just trying to do the best “I” can. Mostly because this New Life is no longer about “me”! I mentioned that we are to live this New Life the same way through which we received this New Life, by Grace through Faith. (Eph 2:8) This speaks about a relationship. This New Life is no longer about “me” doing this or that. It is no longer about “me” thinking, feeling or wanting one thing or another. It is no longer about “me,” but about “WE.” This union between God and the believer is how this New Life begins, and it is how it is supposed to be lived out. I mentioned Galatians 3:1-6 last week too, because what St Paul is saying in those verses, is so very powerful if we will take the time to understand it, more and more.

When we believe, we receive the Holy Spirit, Who regenerates our dead spirit by bringing Eternal Life into us. Think a woman’s egg and a man’s seed here. If those two do not come together, then there will be no life. But once they do, they can no longer be separated, ever again, right? Same idea here. So to try to live apart from the Holy Spirit once He enters our spirit, is not only foolish, but it leads to a very disappointing, dead life.

I say again, this New Life in Christ is no longer about “me,” but about “WE.” As we connect with God, in our hearts and minds, He will help us grow spiritually. The Holy Spirit will renew our minds, help us control our emotions and align our will with God’s Will, and we will become more and more like Jesus as a result. Yet the Holy Spirit will never force any of this change upon us. If we really want this New Life, filled to the overflow with peace and joy, then we have our part to play.
