Truth is something that never changes. It is the same across Time and cultures. Since we humans are always changing, since all we profess to know and understand is always changing, since everything on this planet is always changing…by definition, none of these can be truth, right? But God’s Word, both written and Incarnate, He never changes. Why? Because He is Perfect! When someone is perfect, there is no need to change! And so, we Christians must place our Faith in God and His Word because, as Dr Stanley says, “Faith, as opposed to hope, always has truth as its object. Faith does not create truth. What is true is true, whether we ever accept it or not.” (p71)
What we Christians need to do is trust God’s Word. Remember we are to live by Grace through Faith. Not faith in whatever we want, the way we want it, when we want it and so on! That is MMI living! But Faith in God’s Love. Faith in God’s Grace. And Faith in God’s abiding help through the Holy Spirit. It is His Love that sent Jesus to save us. It is His Grace that grants us Salvation, because we do not deserve His Love. And it is the indwelling help of our great Helper that leads to the Abundant Life we were always meant to have, enjoy and share.
The truth is we cannot have life apart from the Father’s Love. We cannot have life apart from the Son’s Grace. But we also cannot enjoy nor share this New Life apart from the Holy Spirit’s power and guidance. The truth is we need God, every day and in every way. The sooner we acknowledge this Truth, the quicker we can apply it and enjoy this life, on the way to our Eternal Life.
