Behaviors Bring Freedom

Change never happens by accident, have you ever noticed that? We must be deliberate and intentional to make new choices that will lead us to where we really want to be. This is true about anything in life, and it is true about our financial health as well. The only way we will ever get to the point of bringing lasting change in our lives is when we get to the point where we have just plain had it with the way things have been going. Until we are sick and tired of being sick and tired, we will not be motivated to make the changes necessary to get us going in a new, better direction. Mr Ramsey calls this the “I’ve had it” moment. The key is to find a plan that works…again, God’s Plan always works, so following a Biblically based program, like this one, is our best way to find that Financial Freedom we all desire.

Mr Ramsey tells us plainly that most of the time, our money messes have very little to do with math or what we know about money. He says, “Personal finance is only 20 percent head knowledge. The other 80 percent—the bulk of the issue—is behavior.” (p6) The way we think about money, use it, save or don’t save it and the reasons behind all that is what gets us into trouble. For instance, when we think our money is ours…this is a big one, even for maturing Christians. My Friends, everything belongs to God and is a gift from God. “Wait just one minute, Diane! I work hard to earn my income!” you cry out. Yes, I am sure you do, but who gave you the talent, insight, education and job opportunity, not to mention the health to be able to work? See how we forget God when it comes to money? Check out one of my favorite Dt verses. This is when Moses is reminding the Israelites to not forget God when they enter into the Promised Land and begin to gain wealth: “But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.” (Dt 8:18) Let’s let this truth sink in today… leave a comment if you have trouble with this and we will continue tomorrow…
