Anointed to Serve

Praise God that He has already prepared for all our needs and will help us defeat every enemy, as we lean on Him!

“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.” Ps 23:5 ESV

Anoint my head with oil. We may not understand what a blessing this is, but in Biblical days, the priest was ordained to carry out his mission by having oil poured down upon his head. This oil represents the power of the Holy Spirit so that he could do his job, and do it in a manner worthy of God. My Friends, we all need this anointing too! Once we become born again, we must continue to grow in Christ so that He can show us which spiritual gifts we have been given. But trying to live them out without the Holy Spirit’s help and guidance, would be as disastrous as an Israelite coming into the Presence of God without this anointing. If you are not sure what I mean, check out the story of Uzzah in these verses! (2Samuel 6:1-7 and 1Chronicles 13:9-12) Coming willy nilly to God on our own power was, and still can be, deadly!

Anointing releases the power of the Holy Spirit within us. Think seeds here. If I hold a seed in my hand long enough, it will die. It needs to be planted in rich soil. It needs to be watered. It needs to be exposed to the sun. It even needs manure, now and again. These are some of the ways our spirit grows so we can reveal the righteousness God has given us. God plants us in His Word so He can nourish us (rich soil). God cleanses us from the impurities of our old nature (watering). God warms us with His love and goodness (sun exposure). He even allows some hard times (manure) to fall on us hoping we will continue to lean on Him and His anointing. And as we do, this anointing is displayed by the level of the Fruit we broadcast.
