New WHO and New DO

Your DO is determined by your WHO!

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Pr 4:23 NIV

Hi Friends, Diane here. Wouldn’t life be so much more fulfilling and rewarding if we would be set free from the things that continue to pull us down? Things that we are still a slave to, like the addictions I mentioned yesterday. Yes, I said a slave. If anything controls us, if we habitually seek and follow that thing or person, whether consciously or not, it is our master. When we do not know WHO we are, we continue to turn to these lesser, and self-destructive rulers instead. Are we willing to call this what it is: sin? When we do not know WHO we are, the pull of these lesser overlords is so strong that we continue to fall into their power.

For instance, when we are stressed out because we find ourselves in a difficult situation, do we automatically seek out one of these addictions or do we have the freedom to choose to turn to God for relief instead? Anything or anyone we place above God is the very definition of idolatry, which is sin. And why? Because God never desired us to follow anyone but Him. These worldly, lower things are not what is best for us. These lesser gods do not lead to fulfillment, much less do they empower us to live a life full to the overflow with peace and joy, loving God and loving others! Whatever we turn to instead of God, is our idol. And why do we turn to these lesser things? Because we do not know WHO, and Whose, we are.

WHO we are is determined by Whose we are. Do we still think we belong to ourselves? That we must make all our choices alone? That we were given freedom so we can do whatever we want, whenever we want, however we want? No, my Friends. That is who we used to be. NOW we are NEW! Have I said that enough this week? If we are NEW then we must begin to ACT new. This means not being a slave to sin anymore. Knowing WHO we are in Christ gives us the freedom to connect with Him and receive whatever it is we require at that particular moment to make the choices that reflect we are New, and not as slave anymore. If God is the one Who made us NEW, then only God is the one Who can help us act NEW. Jesus changes our WHO so He can help us change our DO. He grants us victory over sin, so we no longer need to be a slave to it.
