Oh The Tongue!

Hi Friends, Diane here. Let’s stay in the Book of Proverbs this week as we talk about one of the major ways we can tell WHO we still think we are. As we said last week, if we focus on our identity IN Christ, then we can change our behavior as well. The more we know WHO we are, because of Whose we are, the more our DO will change to reflect this NEW Person in Christ. But what is a clear display of where we are in this process? Our tongue. The way we speak about ourselves reflects WHO we think we are. If we are still saying things like, “Oh I am such a dope! I can’t do anything right! No one cares about me nor does anyone want to! I am all alone”…and so on it can go. This is an example of speaking death over yourself. This is showing we have not yet understood how much God loves us, that we are a NEW Creation IN Christ, that His Love has made us worthy, good enough for the Abundant Life. Instead, we are still acting like our old MMI person. We still do not know WHO we are in Christ.

What we need to see is that this is who we used to be. At The Downfall, in the beginning of Humanity, death came upon us and infected us. We became separated from God, Who is Life, so death was our only option, apart from God. But my Friends, this is why Jesus came, so we no longer need to be apart from God. IN Christ, we can have Life and have it in abundance. (remember Jn 10:10) If you have sincerely surrendered your life to Jesus, then you already have Life, there should be no more death in you. Now we must start speaking this Life out too. Listen to this amazing verse:

“Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Pr 18:21 BSB

Our words have power my Friends, and they can either enhance the Abundant Life, or destroy it.
