Silently Speaking Volumes

I love how my shirt for the week does not mention The Chosen by name. It does, however, display their logo of fish, with one going the opposite way of the other two. And just like so many companies are recognized just by a picture icon now a-days, so too Mr Jenkins was hoping this “Against the Current” fish motif would be quickly associated with his amazing show.

But can I share my insights about why I really love the idea behind this shirt? You see, as Christians, we too should not have to tell others who we believe in, and follow after. The way we live should make it so apparent that we belong to Christ that no words are needed. Our actions, the way we seek to love and help whoever God places before us, should speak for themselves. It is just like there should have been no need for Jesus to go around telling others He was the Messiah, because the way He lived, the miracles He performed, the Grace He showed everyone, and the truth He boldly spoke, should have been more than enough clear evidence of that fact. And it should be the same for us, as His followers.

Our actions speaking volumes without specifically saying the Name of Jesus. The Bible talks about this very thing as Jesus Himself says, “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (Jn 13:35) You see, talk is cheap, as the saying goes. And sadly, there are way too many people claiming to be Christians, yet they are not living a life that coincides with that statement. Jesus never hesitated to talk the talk, AND ALSO walk the walk. He did not only speak the truth in Love and Grace, but He displayed it with everything He did. Maybe it is time we stop all the talking and simply start reflecting our Savior to this hurting and lost world through our deeds.

When we simply seek to go about doing good, like Jesus, then others will know there is something different about us, and they will, inevitably, ask about our Faith. I have experienced this on several occasions with people I have helped who then asked me, “Are you a Christian?” Silently speaking volumes. This is how we should live our lives. Then, like this shirt, we won’t have to tell anyone Whose we are, because they will just know. As another saying goes, we will be wearing our heart on our sleeve…or in this case, on our shirt.

We will continue with Book Two tomorrow…
