We Are Not There Yet

Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy Name, Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done on earth as it is in Heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins…Praise God we are not who we used to be, but we are still children growing into who we will be forevermore. Children of God are still growing, learning, maturing and yes, still messing up too. We are no longer sinners who sin, because that’s their only choice, but we are saints who still sin. This is our reality for now: as we grow in Christ, we learn to sin less, but one day we will be like Him, sinless.

It is so important that this reminder is in this beautiful prayer because it keeps us humble. It helps us have proper perspective of who we are, least we get full of ourselves thinking we are above any other human on this fallen planet. We are still broken, but the difference is we are SAVED! And every time we sin, not “if” but “when” we sin, we can turn to our Father and ask for His forgiveness which He immediately grants us.

Please do not forget, this is not a matter of Salvation, but about Sanctification. It is about keeping our relationship with God free from any disobedient patterns and habits. This helps us to continue to be transformed into His sinless character…and that is the goal for the Abundant Life.
