Hi Friends,
If you haven’t been told in a while, please hear this: you are beautiful! As a matter of fact, listen to what the Bible says about you:
“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Ps 139:14 NIV
As I said last week, the way God created our anatomy is truly breathtaking! We are truly fearfully and wonderfully made. The “fearful” part is that, if we don’t respect our bodies, they can malfunction. We must learn to highly regard our physique because it is the way through which we are able to display our Creator. Never forget, we were made in the Image of God, so that we may reflect God. When we are healthy and strong, when we have energy and stamina, when we have the ability to be there for others because we are in good shape, we can display the invisible God in visible ways to those around us. I am sad to say that I have not always respected my body…but today is a new day! Understanding how important our physical being is to God should be the beginning of empowering us to make better choices when it comes to our bodies. Please, no pressure here. God knows we are children who will not always make those best decisions, but the more “better” choices we make is the “more” better we will show God that we do respect what He has created.
Fearfully and wonderfully made. The “wonderful” part is how complex our bodies are. It makes me sad that we have a specialist for every system of our bodies. If our blood pressure is high we might see a cardiologist. If we are diabetic, we might go to an endocrinologist. You get my drift. But here’s the problem: what the heart doctor does will affect our insulin and what the diabetic doctors says will affect our heart. As I mentioned last week, we cannot separate our systems, taking care of only one part, and think we can be in full health. We are one. Every cell in our body are interconnected with every other cell in our body. It is awesome the way God has created us to be so intertwined. Absolutely incredible how every part of us communicates with every other part.
We are ONE. Not only are all our physical systems interactive, but every single thing that happens to us in one area of our lives, will show up in another. I can remember when Beckie was in the hospital, the doctors would do their best to heal her body…but they would completely dismiss her soul, and forget about the spirit. I am convinced it is because I would speak encouraging words, because I would sing soothing songs, because I would tell her she was going to be fine, that she actually survived unsurvivable crisis after crisis. Sadly and way too often, the medical experts would think I was out of my mind and would dismiss anything I said about making sure her mental state was being cared for too. But I instinctively knew I had to take care of her as a whole, not just focus on her body. It is for this reason that I have been doing lots of research into the field of Functional Medicine. Let your research start here too. Look up “Functional Medicine” and begin to see the difference between a broken establishment that looks only to maintain symptoms, versus a new exciting field that seeks to discover the root cause, and truly cure illnesses and help invigorate life. See how one doctor can take every component of your being into mind as he/she comes up with a plan, with you, to help you choose life. This concept takes all of who we are in mind as these doctors act like detectives to find the reason behind whatever ails us and implement changes to our lives that will do what God does, heal us from the inside out.
Functional medicine or a dysfunctional system. This is our choice. NOTE: we can stay with the doctors we have come to know and trust, but learn to utilize their expertise to investigate other possibilities to lead to healthier outcomes. Our focus must be on healing NOT just maintaining. (One way or the other, our choice is always between life or death- see last week’s lesson.) Next week, I am going to share with you how I used this “new science” to almost reverse my Dad’s diabetes. Healing not just maintaining. It is not only possible, it is what God desires for us. Won’t you join me?
Until we meet again, keep lifting your eyes to God, He’s closer than you think.
<>< Peace, Diane
Disclaimer: I am NOT a physician…but I am a pharmacist by trade. Whatever I share with you here is for your information only. I hope to stir your interest and inspire your desire to do your own research. Doctors are wonderful, but they are NOT God. They do not know everything, and sadly, they are inundated with so many patients that, they cannot possibly have each one of us be their number one priority. We- you and I- are supposed to be an integral member of our healthcare team. After all, “you” are with “you” all the time! It is not the responsibility of any medical professional to KEEP us healthy. They are supposed to share their knowledge, insights and experiences with us, but WE are supposed to take care of this amazing body that God has granted us. So of course, seek medical counsel, but please, be informed.
