One of the many, many times Rebecca was admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, she was in a comatose state and intubated and connected to a ventilator. After being in this condition for several days, the doctor said he wanted to try to get her off the ventilator and take out the tube to see if she could breathe on her own. I was excited because that meant progress for her health, so I gladly agreed.
Later that day the doctor came in with a nurse. The three of us surrounded her hospital bed with the nurse standing on one side of the bed, me on the opposite side of her with the doctor next to me. Then the doctor began to second guess himself and said, “You know what? Until she opens her eyes, I don’t think I am going to take the tube out.” He had not even finished saying this when, Rebecca opened her eyes, looked straight at the doctor, then closed them again. As you can imagine, the three of us jumped back, looking at each other in amazement. The doctor said, “Well, I guess I am taking it out!”
As if that wasn’t amazing enough, the miraculous thing is that Rebecca did not open her eyes again for another three or four days. Praise God, she did not need to go back on the ventilator again that admission, and after she did wake up, we were back home within days.
Miracles. We can’t explain them. It must be God. Seek them in your life because God still makes miracles daily!
