Let’s talk about what normally happens when we do not control our soul. When we don’t think about what we are thinking, when we don’t notice where our emotions are moving us and when we don’t pay attention to our desires, we fall into one of the darkest places known on earth. It is called a pity party. Sadly, I have attended so many of these terrible parties that I have lost count! But the reason it is called a pity party, is because we fall into that dark pit of hopelessness. Here all we encounter is complaining, self-loathing and the blame game. There is no life anywhere to be found. It is a dark and ugly and lonely place…yet if you are born again, there is always Hope!
Jesus promises to never leave us nor forsake us. He has told me many times, “Child, when you fall into those pity parties, I’m sitting right next to you. I’m never going to leave you…but I won’t participate either. The moment you turn to Me and want to get out, we will leave this party behind!” All we have to do is pay attention to where our soul is: what are we thinking, feeling and wanting at that moment? As we do this, we are turning our soul towards our Savior, Who is glad to move us forward, because, the only one having a party is our real enemy, who enjoys watching God’s children be pitiful instead of powerful.
Our mental and emotional health starts, and gets its power, from our union with Christ. The more we make it our habit to stop and pay attention to our soul, the quicker we can turn to Jesus and receive healing. And please, don’t accept anymore invitations to those horrible parties…I will pray for you, if you pray for me!
