It is John Maxwell who first said, “A budget is telling your money where to go, instead of wondering where it went.” If we truly want to have peace about our financial health, then we must make savings a priority in our personal plan. Second only to obeying God’s command to tithe, saving for the necessities of life, for the unexpected as well as for our future needs, must be the next item on our monthly working budgets. If we do not save for these expenses on purpose, our funds will be used up on other things that might not be half as important as these savings, and will not give us half the peace we really want in this area of life.
