“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Jn 3:16 NIV
As we said yesterday, it is because “God so loved the world” that He could not sit by and do nothing, allowing everyone He created to be doomed to an eternity apart from Him. God made The Way, the one and only way, for humans to be able to be rid of the power of sin over our lives. It is only as we receive this free gift of God’s Love that we are able to become one with God. Since our sinful nature is taken away, since Jesus gives us a New Identity, since the Holy Spirit now lives within our heart, we can enter Heaven when our time here is done.
Sadly, I have heard way too many people claim to be good people, so they think they will be able to get to Heaven, somehow. I will hear foolish things like, “Well I’m better than Hitler!” Oh my goodness, how deceived these poor humans are! The reality is no other human is our standard, especially someone as evil as Hitler! Our standard is Jesus alone. Can anyone even come close to being as holy as Jesus is?! The truth is, good people will not go to Heaven, only holy people will and there is only one way to become holy. If we do not receive “The Way” God has already provided, because He so loves us, then we will still be in our sin and Heaven will not be an option for us. But praise God for His Love because it is the only motivation for what He has done…more tomorrow.
