Listen to the wise words of James:
“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” Jas 4:7 NIV
This is our human problem, isn’t it? We leave off God and, try and try to live this life to the full apart from Him, but we fail each and every time. Why? Because we were created by God, FOR God. We were never meant to live apart from Him in the beginning when everything was still pure and holy…how much less can we now that sin is rampant in this world?! We need His strength, His insight, His wisdom and so on and so on in order to fight victoriously against this already defeated foe. Remember, Jesus has already taken away this enemy’s power. Jesus has also given us power over sin and death, but if we try to live on our own, if we forget all about God, we end up giving our power over to the enemy and he wrecks havoc in our lives. We are only strong when we are IN Christ because Christ is the only one with the power that already defeated the devil. Do we get this?
The power is not ours. The enemy is not afraid of you or me when we are all on our lonesome. This is how he beats us up. But when he gets a glimpse of Christ in us? Man, he can’t run fast enough! You want victory over the devil and his tricks? Then submission is key.
