Say it with me by heart:
“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Pr 22:6 ESV
If Pride is the terrible disease that is the root of all evil, the only cure for this is…the Humility of Jesus. The quote goes like this, “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less.” Jesus knows Who He is. He is confident in His Identity, so much so that He does not feel the need to defend Himself. Freed from having to think constantly about MMI, Jesus can love God, love others and love Life. As a Human, He had to be trained up too. The Bible says that Jesus learned obedience through suffering. (see Heb 5:8) I know this makes our brains hurt, but Jesus was fully God and fully Human. While on earth, He did not lean on His Deity, but lived this life as a Human, teaching us that it is possible to live this life with victory…victory beyond the grave! And now with Him, we too can choose Humility over Pride.
Choosing Humility over Pride. This is what we are doing as we submit to God. We humbly say, “Not my will, but Yours be done.” I call that the “Gethsemane Moment” and this is exactly what we are being trained up to do, to always choose God’s Will over our own. This is The Way Jesus lived here, because He knows it is not about MMI. This is The Truth we must all learn, that life is not about MMI. And the more we do, His Life will be The Life we will have, enjoy and share more and more. That’s the Plan, now let’s choose to follow it.
