Forgiveness is one of the greatest gifts our God desires us to receive. Listen to this verse again:
“‘No one, Lord,’ she answered. ‘Then neither do I condemn you,’ Jesus declared. ‘Now go and sin no more.’” Jn 8:11 BSB
This woman was a sinner, just like you and me. While we do not have many details about her life, it seems from where they found her, and also from the words of Jesus, she was not living a life that reflected God, to say the least. It is interesting how God used her sin to bring her into the Presence of Jesus. The Pharisees may have grabbed her, but understand that God is the one Who brought her to Jesus. This woman’s life was about to be deeply impacted by this forgiving Rabbi who gently told her He would not condemn her. Could she have been living with shame and guilt? Could she have felt like she had no choice but to be with the man they caught her with? Could she have given up on life, and this encounter, was her last opportunity to turn it all around? Have we ever gotten to this place of despair too?
My Friends, I do not know what you are, or have, experienced in life, but I do know that God loves you way too much to allow you to stay in any state of shame and guilt. This is why Jesus came. He paid for our shame by hanging on the Cross. The guiltless for the guilty. You and I have been forgiven all our sin. The sin we have done in the past. The sin we are currently struggling with. And the sin we will, unfortunately, continue to choose in the future. We are children and children can be stubborn…ahhh, but like with this woman, God can use our sin to bring us into His Presence so we too can be forgiven. Let Him draw you in. Then let Him heal the sin.
