While I have believed and taught on Romans 8:1 for years, it wasn’t until this Faith crisis that its Truth reached the depths of who I am. Profoundly understanding that I am no longer called “guilty,” but have been completely forgiven all my sins- past, present and future- I can now live guilt free. This means, even when I mess up…because I will…I can run to God and receive His forgiveness. You see, He does not have to forgive me all over again…that was settled at Salvation…but I need to repent of any sin and be reminded that I am Forgiven, so I run to God and receive this sweet Forgiveness. Instead of sitting in guilt, which leads to that old sense of shame and condemnation that moves me away from God, I can quickly recall this New Name, Forgiven, and run to God instead. Romans 8:1 becomes more powerful in my life because it joins me deeper with God, instead of separating us. What is this powerful verse? “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” (Ro 8:1 my emphasis)
So the transformation in my prayer, and my heart, was immediate and has been so very powerful. I went from, “Lord, I know You can, but I don’t trust You will,” to, “Lord, I know You can AND I trust Your Will!” Do you see it? No more about MMI. No more about what I think, I feel or I want. Now it is much more about what God thinks, feels and wants. I call this the Gethsemane Moment, where like Jesus, we are honest, vulnerable and true about our desire as we pray to God. Yet we deliberately, freely and willingly, choose to place our Faith in God’s Will instead, even if that means not getting our heart’s desire. This frees us to live the Abundant Life. How? Let’s continue tomorrow…
