Mr Lucado begins with the story of Moses after the Exodus. This author speaks about how Moses wanted some assurance that God was going to go with them as they began their journey through the Wilderness. How about you and me? Do we know that God is with us…always with us? There is a huge difference between thinking about this in theory and knowing His Presence as a reality. Theories are not truth, only someone’s ideas and opinions. We can live even if we do not believe in theories, but we cannot escape reality. Yet if we are not aware of the reality, then it is not real to us, and that can get us into trouble. For instance, gravity is not a theory, wouldn’t you agree? It is a reality and if we are not aware of that and try to, let’s say walk off a cliff, we will certainly get into lots of trouble, won’t we?!
God is present all the time, and in all places and time. This is one of His amazing traits- He is Omnipresent. This means He is just as present with you wherever you are right now, as He is with me right here and now. And to further blow our minds, God is as present with Adam and Eve as He is with you and me…ok, now my brain hurts. My point is God IS present. This is a reality and when we dismiss it as such, we an cause ourselves all sorts of heartache. Moses understands this truth and pleads for God not to send them out if His Presence will not go with them. (see Ex 33:12-16)
We too must learn to fear making any choices apart from the wisdom and guidance of God. This is what Moses is concerned about here in this stage of their voyage. And God is so generous to reply, “My Presence will go with you….” (Ex 33:14) Yet Moses does not stop there. He asks God for one more thing. If we could ask God for anything, would we ask for that which Moses wisely does here? Or would we pray for God to make life easier for us? To deal with those who are giving us a hard time? To fill us with all the toys of the world so we could be happy? Reality is none of those things would bring joy to us…not for long anyway, because there will always be something else. What Moses asks for has also become the greatest desire of my heart. Know what that is? Leave me a comment below…let’s continue tomorrow…
