Cooperative Mirrors

Mr Lucado points us to more of St Paul’s wise words as he cites 2Co 3:18: “And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.” (2Co 3:18 ESV my emphasis) Then he tells us the word St Paul used in that verse can be translated into both “beholding” and “reflecting.” The authors says, “One implies contemplation; the other implies refraction.” (p83) He talks about this verse paralleling the experience Moses had with God on Mount Sinai. After beholding God’s Glory, the face of Moses reflected it. “The old way, with laws etched in stone, led to death, though it began with such glory that the people of Israel could not bear to look at Moses’ face. For his face shone with the glory of God, even though the brightness was already fading away.” (2Co 3:7 NLT) Again, this is HOW we make this shift from MMI-centered living to the God-centric life we were created to have, enjoy and share.

“He’s the source; we are the glass. He’s the light; we are the mirrors.” (p86) Doesn’t this make us stop and think! We are to simply reflect The Son, SON, yet how often do we display our own ideas, understandings and desires? We are a flawed mirror certainly, yet Jesus desires to clean us up, soften all our flaws, grind away our broken parts and replace them with a shining surface that will begin to do what we were made to do, reflect God’s Glory. “He sends the message; we mirror it. We rest in his pack awaiting his call. And when placed in his hands, we do his work. It’s not about us; it’s all about him.” (p86) What an incredible analogy, isn’t it? Let’s decide to spend, not only today, but more and more of our lives, simply being cooperative mirrors. This is the Abundant Life, and God honors us by wanting to use us to reflect it.
