In order to truly have, enjoy and share the Abundant Life as complete as possible, everything we do, as well as everything that happens to us, should reflect God’s Glory. Mr Lucado says, “Your message, your salvation, your body, your struggles, your success— all proclaim God’s glory.” (p86) That is the ultimate purpose for each of these, to point our own hearts, and that of others, to God so we may know Him and make Him known. We will take some time discussing each of these areas in our lives as we continue delving into this amazing book. First up, our message. What we are trying to say with our very existence, might be something we have never thought much about. Yet whether we are aware of it or not, we indeed do send out messages all the time.
Mr Lucado begins with a story about Pony Express riders. They had an important message to deliver and were completely focused on getting that letter to its intended recipient. Through hard conditions, dangerous territory and their own exhaustion, this was their job and they did it bravely. It’s our job too, my Friends. There is no more vital or greater message than the Gospel. As God’s children, we are bearers of this Good News. What an honor and privilege, no?
St Paul certainly thought so. Our author says, “Paul existed to deliver the message. How people remembered him was secondary. (Else why would he introduce himself as a slave? Romans 1:1). How people remembered Christ was primary. Paul’s message was not about himself. His message was all about Christ.” (p90) May we endeavor to make this our goal as well.
