Proper Care

Mr Lucado continues this conversation about our bodies by telling us the Corinthians “…philosophy conveniently separated flesh from spirit. Have fun with the flesh. Honor God with the spirit. Wild Saturdays. Worshipful Sundays. You can have it all.” (p110) Do we have this same mentality? I’m diverging from the book here, yet this is a bigger problem than we might think. The last thing the enemy wants is for believers to be ready to be used by God for God’s Glory. If we are busy indulging ourselves with whatever fleshly pleasures we might be tempted to lose ourselves in, then what kind of witness are we to those who do not know Jesus?! And to be honest, if we are tired all the time because we are overweight, then how can we be the hands and feet of Jesus, that is, how can we be a blessing to others if we ourselves are feeling exhausted? And here’s one more thing: when we are in this state, we do not think clearly so we do not make the best choices. Are we seeing the seriousness of taking proper care of God’s Temple?

Mr Lucado rightly says we are God’s tools, “Maintain God’s instrument. Feed it. Rest it. When he needs a sturdy implement – a servant who is rested enough to serve, fueled enough to work, alert enough to think – let him find one in you.” (p112) While God can, and has, certainly done much apart from human’s help, He desires to use us to further His Kingdom. It is such an incredible honor to be able to work with Him in this way…but if we are misusing our bodies, if we are indulging them with food or sex or drugs or other profanities, can we be used by God for His Glory?
