Set of books…did you notice I said that yesterday? This month, that I am calling “So Thankful To Be Chosen,” I am going to point us towards three devotionals that are so well written and so rich with good and godly wisdom and solid doctrine, that I cannot choose between them…so I will take selections from each of them and share them with you, as well as my own insights as per my usual. The books I am talking about are from the founder of an awesome TV series, as well as his co-authors. Have you guessed the name of the show yet? The authors’ names are Amanda Jenkins, Kristen Hendricks, and the creator of the show The Chosen, Dallas Jenkins. The books are called “The Chosen 40 Days with Jesus Book One, Book Two & Book Three.” My goodness I do hope you have not only heard of this series, but have watched, and maybe even rewatched, the last three powerful seasons. How amazing is God that this project is out right now. The timeliness makes it more important for us to “spread the news” about it to everyone we can. The darker this world gets, the more light we are desperate to see. And of course, God raised all those involved in this venture for such a time as this.
Two things to remember, that Mr Jenkins says himself all the time: 1- this is just a TV show. It in NO WAY is meant to take the place of God’s Holy Word. He hopes though, that it will open up people’s appetites to feed on the Bible daily, and get to know our very, very good Savior more deeply. And 2- because it is a show based on viewing Jesus through the eyes of His disciples, they have had to take some creative liberties, since the Bible does not say much about anyone’s backgrounds. And rightly so, because the Bible is all about God, not us humans. Yet those involved with this series do the best they can at being as Biblically accurate as they can be. Remembering we are all humans and fallible, please show them all your mercy as you might be tempted to critique what you see. And never forget, the point is to introduce Jesus to a very hurting, broken and lost world. And they are doing an absolutely fantastic job with that goal!
