As I have been saying, God’s Grace initiates our Salvation, as well as makes our Salvation possible, and more over, then God’s Grace matures us, so we can help others know His Grace too. In this chapter called “Following Hard After God,” Dr Tozer tells us that, for this Grace to truly transform the heart, it must produce in us a hunger to pursue God. He warns that “…we Christians are in real danger of losing God amid the wonders of His Word.” (p13) If we leave God out of our religion, it does not change who we are nor does it serve the purpose of God’s Grace, which is simply to know God and make Him known. This is the whole point, my Friends. Once we lived apart from God, now in Christ, we are to live with, in and through Him. This means seeking God in all things and in all ways through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. As our Holy Father, God desires a relationship with us. What a breathtaking privilege and honor!
Dr Tozer tells us, “[God] communicates with us through the avenues of our minds, our wills and our emotions. The continuous and unembarrassed interchange of love and thought between God and the soul of the redeemed man is the throbbing heart of New Testament religion.” (pp13-14) God speaks to us through our soul. For instance, have you ever had a good thought that just popped into your mind? That was God. Have you ever had a feeling like you just had to call a particular person right then and there? That was God. Have you ever wanted to bless someone just because? That was God. These are real practical ways God speaks to us and moves us to do His Will, but we still have to choose to obey.
Again this is real and can really makes an impact on those around us, if we heed God’s leading. I recall once when I was working that I had a thought just pop into my mind about complimenting a customer on the lovely necklace she was wearing. I felt like she was having a bad day and needed something to lift her heart. I wanted to help her but wasn’t sure how. So I acted on that thought, feeling and desire, and at least for that moment, was able to turn that woman’s day around. She came in stressed out, but left smiling as she held the charm while remembering the story behind that pretty necklace. Grace received then given, as simple as that. This is how we follow God’s Will and share the Grace He gives to us. God speaks to our soul, and He does so because He desires a relationship with us.
