Already Paid

It is so important to get this verse deep in our hearts:

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Ro 6:23 ESV

Salvation does come at a very precious cost, but praise God by His Grace, we are not the ones who had to pay for it, nor could we. Because God so loves us, He sent Jesus to do what we could not. This free gift is available to anyone, at any point in time. (remember that video?) Because Jesus paid the required price for sin, we now get to receive Eternal Life through Him. It is like we went to a hotel and charged all sorts of amenities, destroyed all the furniture, broke all the windows and just wrecked the place…then Jesus steps in and says, “I will pay for all the damage,” and we get away scot free! Jesus is left with the bill, which He freely, willingly and generously pays in full…as a matter of fact, He doesn’t stop there. Jesus also gives the hotel manager extra funds just in case we mess up something else too. You see, God knows us. He knows we are children who will continue to mess up. Jesus paid for our past sins, our present sins, and our future sins.

When we receive Jesus as Lord, He makes us New Creations. We go from being sinners to being saints. Sinners cannot do anything else but sin. (see Isa 64:6) But saints, on the other hand, have a choice. We can continue to sin, especially if we do not mature in Christ and do not know any better. Or we can choose to become this New Creation person God has given us the potential to become. We can learn how to live a holy life as we allow God to transform us from that self-centered sinner we used to be, think Jezebel here, to this New Creation person we are becoming. This side of heaven we are not going to be sinless, but as we grow, we sin…less. And we will never hear God say, “Ok, now that I saved you, this is what you have to do to keep this Salvation.” No. It is free for all who will receive it. Oh how amazing is this amazing Grace!?! More tomorrow…
