“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” 2Co 5:17 ESV
Behold the word “behold”! This is not a simple, “Hey, look at this.” It is a, “Stop everything, and gaze intently at this truth, focusing all your energy on this truth so it will change you, now and forevermore!” Behold is another very powerful word and I believe St Paul uses it here to grab ahold of our wandering attention, so we can get a deeper sense of the power in what he is saying.
Behold, the new HAS come. No longer living on our own, all by ourselves, with our own limited resources and insight, we can begin to have steady peace, even when everything around us is in chaos. We can have lasting joy even when life presents us with heartache. We can sense that sweet righteousness in the Holy Spirit, because we know we have done our best and trust God for the rest. Because we are now living with Jesus on the throne of our lives, because we are now leaning on the influence and ability of the Holy Spirit, we can live like we never have before. This means we can control our thoughts, we can move our emotions, and we can desire the things that will truly fulfill our lives. We can, but do we?…more tomorrow.
