So I have talked about these convenient, yet potentially destructive products before…what are they? Plastics. In case you did not know, plastics ARE chemicals, and unfortunately, they can leach on to whatever they come into contact with, including of course, our foods and beverages. We end up ingesting these harmful substances, which can lead to illnesses, but sadly, no doctor ever even takes these into consideration when treating us, right? So again, you and I have to be informed and make better choices.
We talked about this before too, but even when items say BPA-free, we really have to be careful about using them. As I said, never microwave food in plastic because heat increases the leaching, and try to use steel or glass water bottles. If you have to use plastic bottled water, use each bottle only once, do not refill them… “one and done” is the rule. I think I also mentioned our household has moved from plastic food containers to glass wherever possible. Also, and I know this is more challenging to find, but try to buy foods already in glass containers or move them to glass as soon as you can. Imagine, that food has been sitting in that plastic this whole time…what on earth has leached out from the plastic on to our food? We have found that those “Ball” brand glass jars are awesome for all types of foods and liquids.
Here is another quick tip I am still trying to remember to do myself: if you eat out and know you are going to have leftovers, take your glass containers with you to bring them home in. I know it’s a little awkward, but your healthier body will be very thankful. My point? The less amount of plastic we have and use, the better off we will be. All the changes we make to lessen our exposure to chemicals are well worth it!
