This is another important and powerful verse, if we understand and apply it.
“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Pr 22:6 ESV
Do you remember learning how to tie your shoelaces? Did you get it right the very first time? How about the second time? Well, how about now? Somehow you trained yourself how to tie shoelaces, and now that you are older, you don’t even have to think about it, you just tie them. I cannot explain this any simpler than that. Sanctification is learning to “tie our shoelaces,” with love, peace, joy, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. That’s the Fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22-23) and this is a good picture of who we are growing into because this is for sure not who we are apart from Christ. So let me share with you all my “bread crumbs on the counter story,” as an example of what I am talking about here.
So envision this: a toaster on top of my nice kitchen counter, but then bread crumbs all over that area! For some reason, my husband had this bad habit of doing just that and in my BC life, Before Christ came into my heart and saved me, I would lose my mind whenever he did this! I mean for hours I would rant on and on about how disrespectful he is being and what? Do I have nothing else to do but clean up his messes all day and how dare he not think about me and so on and so on it went…I’m kind of embarrassed by it now, but I love using this situation to show how silly we humans can be and how powerful Sanctification is. We will continue the story tomorrow…
