If we only focus on these three virtues, we can begin to experience more and more of God’s blessings. Listen:
“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love.
But the greatest of these is love.”
1Co 13:13 NIV
So what are these three virtues like? They are like the muscles in our body. We do nothing to have them…we are born with muscles, right? Well, these are godly attributes that come only from God. Now unfortunately this doesn’t mean we will not misuse them as we seek lesser things, mind you! Because sadly we often do misplace them, like when we place our faith in the government, trusting them to fix all our problems. Or when we place our hope in modern medicine trusting them to heal all our ills. Or even when we place our love on someone else thinking that they will fulfill us completely. Listen, it is good to use these avenues, but to place all our faith, hope and love in these worldly, broken things alone? That is the quickest way to get disappointed!
We must learn to place these virtues where they belong, on our Lord Jesus Christ! We couldn’t even have Faith, Hope or Love if God did not first instill them into the human heart. They are most powerful when, like muscles, we exercise them in, with and through God. But again like muscles, if we do not choose to use them, they will atrophy, that means they will get weak and useless. And so God allows challenges in our lives so that we can turn to Him and flex these “muscles” until they get so strong that nothing can overpower us! Let’s start talking about the first muscle, Faith tomorrow…
