Important Choices

Hear this great verse:

“This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live” Dt 30:19 NIV

All the choices we make are important. And the motives behind those choices matter even more. While God gives every human Free Will, apart from His transforming Love, do we really have a choice? Life choices are those that are self-LESS, you know, like every single choice Jesus ever made as He walked this earth! He always, and only, chose the Father’s Will over His own, even and especially, when it was the hardest thing to do…like Garden of Gethsemane here where our Savior sweated blood the pressure was so great! We on the other hand…well, let’s take a moment and thank God for His amazing Grace!

So if Life choices are self-LESS, guess what death choices center on? You guessed it, MMI! Pride moves us to make choices that revolve around what “I think, I feel and I want.” Even when we are trying to love someone else, we love them from OUR perspective, from what WE feel they need, the way that is best for US. For instance, have you ever been excited to give someone a gift YOU really thought they would love, but been let down at THEIR lack of enthusiasm? We have to ask ourselves, did I buy that gift because THEY would like it or because I would like to gift it? Again, I am not trying to beat us up here, the enemy does a good job of that all by himself, so we don’t have to help him, but I want our eyes to be open to the truth…because it is only when we KNOW the truth that we can be set free…ok, that was last week, but just in case you forgot it already, thought I’d reenforce it. Anyway, more tomorrow…
