The power of prayer is powerful:
“Then Jehoshaphat was afraid and set his face to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.” 2Chron 20:3 ESV
So let’s talk a little bit more about fear for the rest of this week because, while prayer is powerful, fear can be also, and I don’t want to seem like I’m dismissing that force at all. It is easy to cheer for verses like John 8:32 where we proclaim, “And you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” Cue the roaring excitement of the crowds! Yet one of the major obstacles keeping us from this Freedom is fear. A couple of weeks ago we also talked a little about anxiety which is a type of fear. At the core of most fears, esp anxiety, is the sense of not having control over situations and/or others. We do not know all the details of what will happen and fear sets in.
The truth, though, is that this reflects most of life. What do we really know, right? I am not trying to increase our fear here, but I am trying to instill the truth a little deeper into our hearts so we can cast it upon God and be free from any negative effects fear might try to impose on us. The sooner we learn to control what we can control, and trust God with the rest, the sooner we can let go of anxiety and any other fear. We learn to remain in peace and joy instead of in fear…more tomorrow…
