What we choose to do with our finances will not keep us from Heaven, and these decisions will not get us into Heaven either. Thank God, there is only ONE Way to be granted Everlasting Life, and that is by Grace through Faith. (see Eph 2:8) Once we have sincerely surrendered our lives to God, He continues to help us surrender every part of what we thought was ours to Him, for His Glory. The more we learn to live with open hands, the freer we get because we are not trying to hold on to it all. Again, none of it is ours anyway. By God’s Grace, we get to enjoy it all, IF we choose to enjoy it all.
Sadly, too many people do not know what they have until it is gone. This is the really tragic part of my story. I had the American Dream: a wonderful husband, two amazing children, a lovely home, a great profession, vacations and more stuff than I knew what to do with…and yet I did not appreciate it. For the most part, I was empty inside and miserable…and I shouldn’t have to tell you that miserable people make others miserable too! It was not until my Baby Girl fell into that first coma that I finally realized just how blessed I was. Again by God’s Grace, I began the journey towards grasping this truth, and the more I let go of it all, including our finances, the more grateful I become…and then the Abundant Life takes on a whole new meaning!
My Friends, learn from my mistakes. Don’t hold on to whatever it is God has granted you, instead enjoy it, use it for His Glory, “…and see if [God] will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.” That’sMalachi 3:10 and that is God’s promise to His children who continue to pass this test of financial obedience.
