Ok let’s bring both verses we’ve talked about so far together today:
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.” Ps 23:1-2 ESV
It is because the Lord is our Shepherd that we can be content with whatever we have, or don’t have. It is because the Lord is our Shepherd, that we can feel secure in whatever is going on around us. And it is because the Lord is our Shepherd, that we can rest in Him, as we live our lives, growing to be God’s Light in this world.
One last thought: when God makes us lie down, we have to wait on Him. But it is how we wait that makes all the difference, right? This requires patience as He perhaps works something out in the background, preparing the way for us in our next leg of our journey. Or maybe God is growing us as we rest for the next thing, all the while enjoying just being with us…no, don’t just fly through that last point. Listen again, God enjoys just being with you, even if there is nothing you are doing FOR Him at the moment. Just sitting around each other’s presence, becoming one with Him, as we share our hearts with Him. God listens to our ideas, stretches our imaginations, corrects some false notions…or simply watches us as we rest in Him. I get a vision tiptoeing into my child’s room as he sleeps quietly in his bed and I just stand over his crib watching him…beautiful, peaceful rest. Will we believe God desires this kind of relationship with us, His children? Oh what a loving Father we have, my Friends!
