So we have trillions of microbials living on and in us. Everything from bacteria to viruses, fungus and parasites are part of our normal flora, as it used to be called way back when I was in pharmacy school. Depending on what location of our bodies we are talking about, there could be a different “ecosystem” made up of different microorganisms. Because these tiny creatures are so quick to change according to their environment, they offer a potentially powerful way to heal us… or cause us harm. The issue is similar to this life we live: we will never have a microbiome where we will not have only “good” microbes and zero “bad” ones. The issue is the balance between these two. There must exist more helpful microbes than hurtful ones for us to have better health…just like it is with the world around us.
If we are not eating right, not staying hydrated, being inactive and/or sleeping poorly, we will be effecting this balance. Remember everything affects everything else in our bodies…as well as in life. We are all interconnected within our own person, but we are also interconnected with everyone and everything else in this world. Again this is one of the reasons why the Microbiome fascinates me. It is as if God is trying to teach us life lessons right within our own individual bodies. In order to have optimal health physically as well as in our communities, we cannot forget we are all affecting one another for good…or bad. But the more good we do, the less bad there will be. Our Microbiome can serve as a teaching tool to help us understand the bigger world around us…how cool is that?!
I really do hope you will take the time to do some research into this amazing secret world that exists within us. You can learn so many godly lessons through it, so keep your minds open…
