Don’t miss the powerful story on pages 67 to 68, about a son finally realizing how he had misunderstood his Dad as he was growing up. He confesses this much to his Dad, as he asks for his forgiveness. Mr Wilkinson wisely counsels us, “I believe that the majority of believers need just such a conversation with their Father.” (p68) Humanity’s reality is we have been misjudging God’s Character since the Garden of Eden. This doubt and lack of trust has, and continues to lead to much pain and tragedy in this world, but it also hurts God. This author marvels as he says, “Isn’t it amazing that God allows Himself to be hurt by us? (We know this happens because Ephesians 4:30 says, ‘Do not grieve the Holy Spirit.’) It’s hard to comprehend God’s tender love in the face of our misunderstanding, repeated rejection, and unwarranted abuse from us. Yet His love remains constant!” (p68) My Friends, if we do not think we have anything else to be grateful for today, then this truth is certainly something that should destroy that lie. And it should do so every day, no matter what is going on, as it moves us closer and closer to the Life we were always meant to live, being one with God and bearing all His Fruit.
God loves us, period. He will never give up on us, but He will also never give in to us either. He loves us that much! He does not want us to live a mediocre life, because abundance is in His sight. Our part is to trust and obey. And the truth is, even for this we are desperate for His help! Again, the Good News is, now that we are His, He will never leave nor forsake us, (Heb 13:5), so He is always available to help us enjoy and share this Abundant Life.
