Another example of the choices we make that either bring us towards the blessings of life or closer to the curses of death is a treadmill. (see Dt 30:19) As I was walking on my treadmill one morning and praying to our Lord about this issue of choosing life or death, I felt Him in my spirit ask, “If you stop walking, right now, what will happen?” Well, what would happen is that I would roll straight off that treadmill and injure myself! He explained that this is what life is really like. With every decision we make, we are either choosing life or we are regressing into death. That confusion, frustration, bitterness, depression, anxiety…these are all the symptoms of death. We like to think we can just live in some kind of grey area, but we cannot. Like that treadmill, life keeps moving forward because Time keeps moving forward. We cannot make NO decision and think we are ok…and by the way, “no decision” IS a decision.
We must do what I did on that treadmill, keep taking one step at a time moving forward. That is, we must continue to make “life choices” with each and every choice we make. A quick example is, when a negative thought comes to our mind, we can either dismiss it (life choice) OR we can entertain it (death choice). With our mental and emotional health, we have to pay attention to those thoughts or we will roll backwards into that pit and darkness will take over.
But praise God, we do NOT have to do this alone. The more we connect with God, the more He helps us take note when our thoughts are starting to go the wrong way, when our emotions are starting to get self-centered, when our desires are moving towards things that are no go for us. As we connect with Jesus, the Holy Spirit convicts our soul and we CAN stop walking away from God, right there, and run into His waiting arms instead.
In life, there are really only two choices: life OR death. There is no grey area! (see Rev 3:15-16)
