Today, let’s discuss our Microbiome and pain relievers. Everyone has a different pain tolerance, which simply means that one person is able to feel pain more intensely than the next person. For instance, doctors have told me I have a high pain tolerance, which means, when my body is in pain, I do not require as much pain medication, nor as quickly, as someone who feels it more intensely. I say this to make sure you understand that I am not judging you here. If you are experiencing a level of pain that is too much for you to handle, you are putting a great deal of stress on your body if you do not take something, so it is ok to use these medications. Start low and increase as needed…but if you can handle the pain, especially with the use of lifestyle things instead, then opt for the most natural way to alleviate the pain as possible. Why? Well, you guessed it, pain medications mess up our Microbiome too.
Here’s a quote from another good article, link below:
“Now, scientists are becoming more aware of how NSAIDs also have the ability to disrupt the gut microbiome, cause dysbiosis (an overgrowth of harmful bacteria in the gut), and injure the protective gut barrier.”
So what are some more natural things we can do to lessen our pain, besides hot compresses, warm baths or an ice pack? In addition to all sorts of herbs and oils that help bring relief to pain, here’s a quick list of things we can do, but do your own research and try different things because, again, we all have different pain tolerance levels.
1- Change your Diet. For lasting effects to your pain tolerance, change your diet to include more anti-inflammatory foods like berries, broccoli, salmon, avocados and even dark chocolate, in moderation of course
2- Use probiotics. For instance,L. Acidophilus can lower intestinal pain, as well as turn on our natural opioid and cannabinoid receptors in our bodies which alleviate pain, and can also reduce the anxiety related to the pain
3- Get out in the sun. Vitamin D can be helpful in reducing pain…and there is something very therapeutic about being out in God’s beautiful nature too
4- Move those muscles. Either do some stretching, some deep breathing or get a massage, but moving seems to lower the impact on pain
5- PRAY!!! The best pain reliever is God Himself…and even if the pain doesn’t immediately go away, He will help you endure it all, with your peace and joy intact
<>< Peace, Diane

DISCLAIMER:
I remind you all that I am NOT a doctor…but I am a pharmacist and so, medicines are kind of my forte. But I am not here to diagnose anything, and I am certainly not here to tell you to stop taking your prescriptions…actually the total opposite, hear me: DO NOT STOP your medications without consulting your doctor…but if your doctor is not interested in helping you get off your medications, then perhaps it is time to find another doctor.
