The Abundant Life Jesus is talking about in John 10:10 is a supernatural Life because we humans cannot have it apart from God. It is beyond our ability. The only way to have, enjoy and share this type of life is to surrender our worldly, temporary lives to Jesus as Lord and Savior, receive the Holy Spirit, then the Father grants us this Abundant Life.
The Abundant Life is one overflowing with all that is good, including that peace that surpasses understanding. Let me give you an example: when my Beckie fell into what would be her first coma, I felt the Lord’s Presence in such a powerful way. He poured upon me this Peace, I am talking about. As I watched the doctors and nurses run in and out of her hospital room in a panic, I was in full peace, knowing that everything would be alright because God was there with us. After the crisis was over, one of the nurses came to me and confessed she was indeed in a panic and didn’t know what to do…until she looked over at me. When she witnessed my peace, it affected her in a real way. She was able to gather herself and make the choices that needed to be made for my Baby Girl’s health. The Peace that God gave me, overflowed to this nurse and she was able to serve my daughter the best way she could.
That’s the Abundant Life. It fills us up, more and more, with God’s goodness but it doesn’t stop there. If others are willing to receive it, the goodness will overflow into them too, whether they have surrendered their lives or not.
Overflowing, Abundant Life that will be Everlasting…this is what God wants for us. But for it to be more and more real in our lives first, we must be Doers of the Word…more tomorrow…
