Let’s learn from this verse as we memorize it:
“Then Jehoshaphat was afraid and set his face to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.” 2Chron 20:3 ESV
The king felt afraid and he ran to God for help. How wise! But it is interesting that he didn’t stop there. You see, you and I were never meant to live alone, to cary the burdens of live all by ourselves. Not only were we created to be in union with God, but also with one another. See here how this king “proclaimed a fast throughout all of Judah.” What he was doing was united all God’s people together in prayer. Fasting was meant to focus their intercession on the issue at hand, instead of just being one more thing they had to do in their daily routine. No! This was serious. This was life threatening. This had to be concentrated on and so, Jehoshaphat called everyone to stop what they were doing and pray like their lives depended on it, because it did!
Wow. If you know how this story goes, you know how powerful that decision was. Mmm, I wonder what would happen if all God’s people today chose to do the same thing. Would it make a lasting impact on this lost world? Would captives be set free? Would peace spread throughout the globe? I will leave it there today…see you tomorrow…
