How can we really know, with certainty, what is right and what is wrong? The truth is, only God knows this, yet He desires to give us the gift of godly discernment so that we may be able to tell the difference too. This is an act of the Holy Spirit within us. Apart from Him and His eternal wisdom, no one can know for sure because no one really knows what tomorrow may bring. What seems right today, may turn out to be the biggest mistake of our lives tomorrow. We all need God’s discernment, and certainly do our prodigal children. They think they are walking the right path, but as we follow God ourselves, we can see they may be wrong. Today’s prayer is all about asking for His discernment, for us and our children. It is Day 57 appropriately called, “A Discerning Heart.”
Here is a select example of the strong prayer Mr Banks encourages us to lift towards God:
“My son needs to distinguish between right and wrong, Father, and I also am in need of wisdom as I try to help him. I pray that You will give a discerning heart to both of us…. Help him to be ‘wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil’ (Romans 16:19)…. Let him shine so brightly with Your wisdom that he will ‘lead many to righteousness” (Daniel 12:3). Thank You, Father, that this is a prayer You love to answer! Thank You that You give wisdom when we ask, because You are the source of it!” (pp114-115)
God knows our short comings so He knows we need His wisdom in order to live the godly life. So I will leave you with this wonderful Bible verse: “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” (James 1:5) God is not trying to find fault with us, so no guilt. Go to Him and ask for His wisdom and see how our, and our children’s lives, become more fulfilling.
