Stand Firm

This really is a powerful verse if we take it to heart and lean on God to help us live it. Hear it again:

“You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the LORD will be with you.’” 2Chron 20:17 NIV

Stand firm. Sounds so simple…but just because it IS simple, doesn’t mean it is easy! We can only stand firm as we lean on the Holy Spirit, connecting with God and placing all our Faith on Him. Let me continue with Beckie’s story. All these professionals took my husband, Joe, and me into a room for a conference about this critical situation. I confidently told them to do the surgeries they knew how to do, and that Beckie would survive. Again, and out of great concern for me I might add, these doctors were questioning my sanity. They were worried about me, how I would react when, as they believed, that Beckie would die. They didn’t even think she would make it through the operation, much less survive as I was telling them she would. They thought I was going to have a complete meltdown when she died…but I was standing firm in Christ.

What they did next was horrible. My husband was not yet born again at that time. The doctors knew that he did not think Beckie was going to live. So they separated him and me, and tried to pit us against each other! They tried to convince Joe to cancel the operation, telling him that I was not thinking straight. By God’s Grace, and because Joe and I had such a tight marriage founded on, and grounded in godly love, he simply told them, “I do not believe what Diane does, but I trust her. Do what she says.” As I stood firm, so did Joe.

This is one of the powerful things about taking a position of Faith and standing firm in the Hope of God, it is contagious! The neurosurgeon pulled me aside before going in to perform the operation, and with a heavy heart, he said, “If this was my child, I do not know what I would choose.” I looked at him earnestly, and simply told him, “As a parent, we do all we possibly can do for our children, then we leave the rest in God’s hands.” And so he went away to do the surgery, thinking about what I shared…more tomorrow
