This is an easy one to memorize, and yet a profound one too:
“He must increase, but I must decrease.” Jn 3:30 ESV
Order matters, my Friends. If we put the first thing second, we may get the whole thing wrong! What do I mean? Well, I said yesterday that I think the reason we Christians struggle so much after we are born again is because we are still getting things backwards. As children who are still learning how to live this New Life, we need to grow, but are we still placing ourselves first? This shouldn’t be surprise after all, that’s what children do, right? Life is all about MMI! But that is the old way of existing. Now we have been given Eternal Life. We ARE New Creations in Christ. Remember 2Co 5:17? We cannot keep living life the way we used to or we will sense those death symptoms and falsely start to think, “Nothing has really changed in me. I am still that same old sinner I have always been!” But nothing could be further from the truth, my Friends!
The problem is we haven’t changed the order of our lives. Please note this powerful verse does not start by talking about us! It starts with “He”! As with everything in this New Life, it starts with Jesus, not us. Think about that today and we will continue tomorrow…
