I so love this verse!
“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” Jas 4:7 NIV
Submission. Boy our current culture hates that word! Probably because the enemy hates it when we choose to submit ourselves to God. This is one of the reasons why he has tainted this word so much throughout the years. He has perverted this concept by tempting those in power to take advantage of those in a lower position so that when we hear this word “submission” it seems to paint an awful picture. The enemy wants us to think of submission as allowing ourselves to be abused, but that is the last thing God has in mind.
Submission means “the action or fact of accepting or yielding to a superior force or to the will or authority of another person.” If we are talking about the devil or another imperfect, sinful person, then submitted to them might very well cause us to suffer. But if we are talking about yielding to God, The Superior One, then this means blessings for our lives. Our three enemies only wants to steal, kill and destroy us (Jn 10:10), so if we submit to them, then pain will come in one form or another. But if we submit to God, Who loves us, Who only wants what is best for us? Well, the truth is, this might initially cause us some suffering too, but this is for our good. More tomorrow…
