The Good Brain Washing

God knows what He’s doing. Sleep is for so much more than just consolidating our memories. As we sleep, God repairs our bodies too. For instance, with our Microbiome, as we rest from eating, because we are sleeping, the microbes in our Gut have the opportunity to metabolize the rest of the foods we have taken in during the day. Sleeping gives our Gut some quiet time away from digesting foods, so it can restore itself, as well as to just rest and get healthier too. But there is so much more to sleep than just resting our bodies. 

Also as we sleep, God literally cleanses and restores our brain. We talked last week about the Lymphatic System and how it takes all the toxins out of our bodies. It seems like there is a similar system in our Central Nervous System, especially in the brain itself. It is being called the Glymphatic System and it also removes any toxins or byproducts created during the day. The fluids in our brain is able to circulate better as we are sleeping, so it can grab all those unwanted chemicals from our brain that we make by just doing regular, everyday activities. 

We need to sleep, not only to cleanse our brain, but for us to have a clear mind too…more tomorrow…
