The final purpose for sex is to point us higher. This lovely union is symbolic for a much more important, and eternal oneness with God Himself. Think about this: two completely different people coming together, because of love, to become one? Is this not why God sent His one and only Begotten Son, to make us one with Himself? We could not be any more different than our Holy, Holy Holy God. Yet the moment we place our Faith in Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are united to God by the Holy Spirit, and the becoming one process we call Sanctification, begins. We are “married,” or connected to God, from that moment on until all Eternity! As we mature in Christ, we learn that our focus should be in pleasing God with every thought, word and deed. We live for our Heavenly Husband’s pleasure, not just our own. Life is no longer just about MMI! We are joined with God and so we must learn to do His Will, to obey His Plan, to live by His Timing, to reflect Him more and more.
Again, we were created in God’s Image and so we will only find the fulfilling life when we begin the process of transforming into that original design. Through making love, we become a creator by joining God in procreation and bringing forth offspring. But more vital, as we reflect God’s Holy Nature by being different than who we used to be, we draw others to God, Who can then turn their hearts towards Him and bring them into His Forever Family. We become a parent to the soul we bring to God, have you ever thought about that? This is why Paul could call someone like Timothy his son, not because he was a part of physically bringing him into this world, but because his love of God brought this other human into Eternity.
Let’s never stop at just the earthly understanding of anything in life. Let’s continue to see this world, and everything in it including sex, through the lens of God’s amazing, higher viewpoint. I know this is deep, but that is where the fulfilling Abundant Life we were created for, exists and thrives!
