This will be our final book in this year’s series that I have deemed our Got A Minute Book Club. These have been 12+ books that have impacted by walk with God for the better, and I pray they will do the same for you.
We started January with “The First & Best Book Ever: The Bible,” where we took a very quick walk through Genesis, Deuteronomy, the Gospel of John and the Book of Romans.
February turned us towards what I called “Love Is In the Air” with “The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love That Lasts” by Gary Chapman. We discussed how we all have a distinct way of receiving love. When others “speak that language” to us, our “love tanks” will stay full and healthy, and we are able to give that love away to others around us too.
March brought us to “Spring Growth” with “Secrets of the Vine” by Bruce Wilkinson. We learned the three secrets to understanding the process of obtaining a deeper walk with Christ.
April helped us dive even deeper with our growth in what I called “Living the Resurrected Life” as we read “The Wonderful Spirit Filled Life” by Dr Charles Stanley.
May was all about how to get rid of bad habits by replacing them with good habits, as we read a book by “My Spiritual Mom” called “Making Good Habits Breaking Bad Habits” by Joyce Meyer.
In June, I shared one of my all time favorite books by my “Spiritual Dad” called “It’s Not About Me- Rescue from the Life We Thought Would Make Us Happy” by Max Lucado. This is one that I reread, every now and again, to make sure my perspective about life is set in proper order. It is a must read for everyone who really wants the Abundant Life God desires to give us.
July was all about “Financial Freedom” as we walked through the Seven Baby Steps in “Complete Guide to Money” by Dave Ramsey.
Then August I pointed us to our amazing Good Shepherd in what I called “Summer’s Soul Restorer” as we talked about “A Shepherd Looks At Psalm 23” by W Phillip Keller.
In September, as our kiddies returned to school, I encouraged us to pray for our youth in “Covering Our Children” as I shared some of the great prayers from “Prayers for the Prodigals” by James Banks.
October focused on the “Reformation of Our Hearts” as we talked about God’s Amazing Grace in the book “Grace: More Than We Deserve, Greater Than We Imagine,” another great book by Max Lucado.
And November we just finished up what I called “So Thankful To Be Chosen” as we looked into three devotional books called, “The Chosen 40 Days with Jesus- Book One, Book Two & Book Three” by Amanda Jenkins, Kristen Hendricks and Dallas Jenkins.
So this brings us to December where we celebrate the First Advent of our Lord and Savior. I am simply calling this month, “Emmanuel.” There is so much depth, reassurance and Hope, for today and forever, in that beautiful Name! And it is as we learn to pursue God, with a fraction of the intensity that He pursues us, that we begin to grasp His Love more. Then we are able to experience His Love more deeply, as we walk with Him more closely. And so, here is the last book I want us to discuss: “The Pursuit of God- The Human Thirst for the Divine” by AW Tozer. Let’s first begin with understanding why God’s promise to be our Emmanuel is so vital for us to know.
