The Plastic Dilemma

Being aware is such a vital part of the Christian walk. We must be aware of what we are thinking, feeling and wanting so that we can filter what is good vs what may not be. If we are not focused, trouble can come without us realizing it…and this is true about our finances also. You see the problem with credit cards is we are not really paying attention to how much we are spending when all we do is swipe plastic. But when we use cash…that’s a whole other story. I encourage you to watch Mr Ramsey talk about this topic in the FPU program…he is so funny! The Truth is we get attached to our cash, and so we think twice about giving it away. But credit and debit cards? We do not feel pain when we use them. We just swipe and worry about it later. And worse, now we don’t even have to go through the “huge trouble” of getting that plastic out of our wallets, because we can simply use our phones! Imagine how much more money will fly out of our budget when we get used to doing that!?!

Credit cards are loans, they are not our money. We are paying someone else to borrow the money to purchase things that, let’s be honest, most of the time we don’t really need. Remember what the Bible says about being slaves to lenders? And if we are using credit cards because we are in such a financial crisis, this only adds to our crisis, it doesn’t help. Again I point you to FPU to get out of any financial trouble (link below)…but more importantly, I lift you up to God and hope that you will find freedom from this vicious cycle of plastic and debt, as you follow His Way. After all, remember? It’s all His anyway.
